HET CIRCULAIRE BAGGER CONSORTIUM

In the Netherlands we have a dredging surplus of 100 million cubic meters per year. We can use this waste stream as a raw material in Dutch construction. If we want to process all Dutch dredged material into building material, we have to bring about change in the entire chain. In the circular dredging consortium, we will work with chain partners over the next 2 years on 8 challenges that currently stand in the way of large-scale production and use of paving (and other materials). These vary from organizing the logistical supply of dredged material, working out which types of dredged material can be valorised in what way, to designing a widely supported circular tendering process for both dredging and purchasing circular building materials. This is the only way we can make a positive impact at scale, achieve CO2 reduction in dredging and construction, start using dredging as a raw material and start building with circular building materials.

Over the past 5 years we have learned that a circular product cannot be made and used in a linear system. Many companies and organizations are needed to create this circular ecosystem. We have stopped doing small-scale productions for pilots. We focus on shaping the circular ecosystem for construction with dredged material. Building on the lessons learned from all the projects we've done.

In the circular dredging consortium we make the circular dredging chain a reality. This means that we are working on the following goals:

Processes that work

across sectors

The circular dredging consortium is a multi-year process in which dredgers, water boards, contractors and municipalities, among others, come together to implement the changes required to realize a circular dredging chain. But we can't do it alone - it takes a whole ecosystem of companies and organizations to create a truly circular system. That's why we've been working with partners like Blauwe Bagger and Noorderwind to shape the future of construction with dredged material. Blauwe Bagger is leading the way in separating and repurposing individual streams of dredged material, while Noorderwind guides innovation in the new economy. Together, we're building the circular dredging consortium to make it all a reality.

Are you as excited as we are about the potential for a circular dredging chain? If you think you have a role to play in this exciting consortium, don't hesitate to reach out and schedule an appointment with us through Cal.com (below). Let's make a difference and build a more sustainable future together!
